Rok: 2010 AnotaceIndo-European studies began with work undertaken by Friedrich Schlegel (1808). A few decades later, Franz Bopp published the first introduction to the new subject with Part 1 of his Comparative Grammar (1833). Since then Indo-European studies have yielded a wealth of research material, from monumental works stretching to several volumes, to short elementary volumes. The milestones in the field's almost two-hundred year old history are the major works which were published at intervals almost a generation apart, beginning Bopps' book (1833f.), then August Schleichers Compendium (1st edition 1861), Karl Brugmanns ever-popular, seminal work, Grundriss (1893 -1916), through to the great modern works such as T. V. Gamkrelidze and V. V. Ivanov's Indo-European and the Indo-Europeans which was first published in Russian (1964) then in English (1995).
