This thought-provoking book challenges the conventional wisdom that social democracy was market-hostile forty years ago, and is market-friendly today. In this study Hinnfors provides detailed accounts of the British Labour Party and the Swedish Social Democratic Party and their shifting approaches to the liberal market economy during the period 1965-2002. Through this analysis he draws original conclusions about the parties' capacity to be flexible.
