The Imperial Court Council was involved in many legal cases concerning the 1555 Augsburger Religionsfrieden. Religious conflicts between Catholic and Protestant princes, Catholic abbeys and urban magistrates or confessional minorities with the majority were common in the Holy Roman Empire in the second half of the 16th century. The councillors at the imperial residence in Prague did not only intend to stabilize Catholic institutions, but also to mitigate the force of these struggles.
