Anotace
This text suggests that 1 and 2 Chronicles is not a history of Israel, but rather a theological reflection on the story of Israel's faith. The Chronicler uses the narratives of Samuel and Kings, edited and augmented to develop his vision of Israel. At the centre of that vision lies the assertion that Israel is the people of the God, selected by God from among all the nations, and set apart to worship God in the place of God's choosing (Jerusalem) and in the manner of Gods's intent (according to the instructions in the Torah). The ultimate purpose of this text, however, is not to dwell on long ago, but to sketch the lines of Israel's future as the people of God by drawing on the resources of the past.
