Anotace
This was the first non-mathematical work of Igor' Shafarevich (b. 1923), an internationally known Russian mathematician. It was written 1970s, could not possibly be published then, and circulated in Samizdat. The author presents socialism not as unique social system created by the Bolsheviks but rather as a little changed teaching almost two and half thousand years old. He starts with antique chiliasm and traces the evolution of these ideas and social forms up to state socialism of South America and the Middle East. The last chapter reviews the history and upheavals of this social system in the twentieth century. This last chapter expresses the author's understanding of socialism as a social urge towards self-destruction which is still important one for social evolution.
