Anotace
The Road to Improvement is a collection of 19 articles that charts the developments in school effectiveness research - evaluative and reflective work - and the emergence from it of the pro-active school improvement ideas and initiatives. Drawing on the various studies in which he has been involved, the author tries in this book to chart a middle course which accepts criticisms and recognises the limitations of the social context of schooling - whilst maintaining the positive message about the potency of the individual school and the difference it can make. The road to improvement will never be easy but when all partners in the enterprise work together, the ensuing powerful synergy, whilst it cannot compensate for all the inequalities in peoples' lives, can create more effective schools which offer the best chance we have of enabling more of our population to achieve their potential.
