Anotace
There is a growing recognition among managers, policymakers, and economists of the importance of knowledge and learning for the economic success of people, firms, and national economies. But what exactly is happening with the production, distribution, and use of knowledge as information technology is becoming more widely diffused? What are the implications for economic analysis and policy of the fact that production is becoming knowledge-intensive both in terms of its inputs and outputs? How can we measure the growing importance of knowledge for economic development? These are some of the questions which were addressed at the OECD Conference on Employment and Growth in the Knowledge-Based Economy. In the debate, top international experts approached the issue at five different levels: emergence of the knowledge-based economy and implications for empirical work, economicy theory, and policy the socioeconomic impact of information and communications infrastructures organizational change, firm strategies, and human resource development institutional framework conditions for promoting innovation and technology, the demand for skills, and the need for public policies aiming at job-creation for low-skilled workers.
