Anotace

This book presents the family as a community, an institution a social system and an environment of development for the person. It considers mutual relations between the family and the social system which is here Polish society. Changes in Polish society in the last years due first of all to the collapse of socialism, have had a profound influence on the family. The Polish family undergoes the process of rapid transformation. It searches for new forms of existence in the new society. The book presents the family as a link between private and public life and as a bond between generations, as a bearer and originator of culture, and as a creative element of social and civil life securing its permanence and development. This book reflects the content of lectures given at the University of Minnesota in 1998 and discussions with the scholars and students there. ---from book's back cover
