Anotace

This book is designed for firm owners who feel they are not producing the most from their companies. The author feels that the reason so many small firms go under is because the owners do not bother to rethink their basic aims and policies when profits begin to fall. The author thus presents ideas which require fresh approaches to how people think about their business. He considers that low profit firms are not inefficient but are often incapable of accommodating change. They fail to take account of changing markets, new patterns of competition and methods of doing business and do not gather the information needed for survival in the fiercely competitive environment. The information and advice presented is the result of the author's personal experience of assisting small businesses to improve their fortunes. Advice is given on how to revitalize an organization, present and promote the output effectively, tighten systems for credit and other forms of control and generally how to plan and prepare for change. Specifically, the reader should learn how to take people to Court, reduce operating expenditures, rationalize the workforce and deal with unproductive workers and locate and penetrate new markets. Additonally there is information on dealing with troublesome creditors, with computers and with personal liability. It is designed to be a practical book, to make readers want to do things for themselves rather than rely on outside advice. Accordingly, positive strategies for diversifying, advertising, reposition products and segmenting markets are suggested.
