Anotace

This book examines the current state of social work research in different countries across Europe, providing accounts of the drivers and current issues within each. Social work practice and research do not occur in a vacuum, they happen within socio-cultural, economic, and political contexts, that shape the types of questions, and methods, that take place in social work research. This then poses challenges for social workers, educators and researchers: How do we understand/consturct what social work, and social work research, is across Europe? What are the theoretical approaches that should guide us? How can we carry out research that fits with social work values and causes, in order to learn within and between countries to improve our practice, our standing, and effectiveness? An increased research knowledge base, with social work method and values at its core, is vital for a confident, respected profession, for the development of the services it provides, and to gain credence with policy makers, politicians, and colleagues in academia and in social work agencies. This book aids readers in this enterprise by enabling analysis and learning from the strengths, weaknesses and possibilites of research in the European countries represented within it.
