Based on neo-Malthusian doomsday scenarios, gendered and racialized Others are commonly scapegoated for ecological devastation and insecurity, allowing both, and their core causes (interlocking systems of inequality), to flourish. Through the lens of intersectional, postcolonial feminism, Urban interrogates mainstream environmental security discourse in the United States, with particular emphasis on immigration across the U.S./Mexico border.
