Existentialism emphasizes what it means to be human - that to feel anxious, lonely or uncertain are perfectly natural states. Clients are not considered sick and they are not labelled because each person is unique. Through a process of exploration, the client can learn, through insight and awareness, how they may have become stuck in the process of living. This in turn gives them the freedom to move forward in new directions. This book aims to combine existential ideas into a structured time-limited modular approach. It represents an overview of the principal existential ideas and then applies them to the model, using case vignettes throughout. The last four chapters are devoted to longer case histories, some of which are commented on by the clients themselves. This should allow the reader to understand how the model works both from therapist's and client's point of view. The concept of time itself within the context of this modular approach is shown to act as a catalyst for both the client and therapist, allowing for much deeper issues to emerge, even within a time-limited schedule.
