Anotace

Last year, vastly different screening guidelines were written for the mammographic detection of breast cancer. In the US, it is now recommended that women aged 40-49 undergo mammography every one or two years in addition to annual clinical examinations. The new guidelines are not without controversy. Critics of the guidelines point to the risks of false positive and false negative results that may come from such a wide-spread screening. This makes correlation of mammographic detection with clinical findings, and with pathologic detection of all disease all the more critical in reaching a final and reliable diagnosis. Obviously, everyone concerned with diagnosing breast cancer, from oncolcogists and pathologists to surgeons and radiologists, wants information that will lead them to the correct diagnosis. This book covers breast cancer, and also fibrocystic diseases and other non-cancerous lesions. The book is split into two sections. The first section explains normal breast anatomy and development, epidemiology and risk factors for breast cancer and all of the diagnostic modalities used to detect it. The second section shows the radiographic-pathologic correlation.
