Anotace

This volume reviews the theory and research underpinnings of narrative gerontology and places special emphasis on the emerging and exciting potential applications of narrative gerontology in practice settings. Health care and human service professions can benefit greatly from using narrative approaches to understanding aging and providing care, especially for persons with chronic illness and those near the end of their lives. The practical implications of narrative approaches were discussed within the professions of nursing, medicine, counseling, family therapy, and occupational therapy. Overall, the volume emphasizes the ways in which narrative approaches can improve the quality of care and the quality of life of older adults (i.e., nursing care of people in difficult life situations, guided autobiography; application of life review in palliative care settings.
