Anotace
Research methodology in the field of education has probably never been given as much emphasis as it is today, and much the same is true in other areas of social inquiry. On the one hand, more and more courses involve students in doing research themselves as well as in reading the educational research literature. In this context, training in research method has increasingly come to be seen as a necessity. On the other hand, there is now less consensus than there has ever been about principles which should underlie research, and about its proper relationship to educational practice. The chapters in this book outline the history and scope of educational research. They also discuss many of the major issues at stake in current debates, and exemplify the contrasting perspectives to be found in the literature. This is the companion volume to Educational Research in Action (edited by Roger Gomm and Peter Woods). It is one of two course readers for The Open University course E824 Educational Research Methods.
