Anotace

More than most other areas of the law, EC law demands to be studied in the wider social and economic context. All students of the basic principles of EC law are aware of the momentous changes currently taking place in Europe and recognize that the law is an instrument for the achievement of grand designs. With the rapid pace of developments in this area and the impact of Community membership on Britain, a greater number of students than ever before are choosing to study EC law. This book provides the student with a range of materials relevant to the developments of the Community and its policies. In addition, it provides a carefully-chosen selection of the major judgments delivered by the Court over the last 35 years, and some of the most important pieces of Community legislation with which the student will need to become familiar. The student should be encouraged to appreaciate how the legal order has been developed in response to sometimes conflicting economic, social and political pressures. This edition has been updated to take account of all legislative and administrative developments. It also describes the Community after the adoption of the Maastricht Treaty on European Union, and considers the place of the 1996 Intergovernmental Conference.
