Anotace
The third volume of the Latin-German textbook edition of Martin Luther's writings offers altogether eight texts on the topic of The Church and its Offices.At the center of this book are the two essays De captivate Babylonica ecclesiae, praeludium (1520) and Ad librum a Ambrosii Catharini a responsio lutheri (1521), which refer to each other but are rarely published together. The authority of the ecclesiastic offices, including the papal office, is discussed in the context of the public dialogue about the church council in: Sermo de virtute excommunicationis (1518), Resolutio Lutheriana super propositiones XIII de potestate papae (1519), and Disputatio de potestate concilii (1536). The volume also contains the fundamental text on the protestant conception of office and congregation, De instituendis ministris ecclesiae (1523). The early period of the protestant service is illuminated in Formula missae et communionis pro ecclesia (1523). As an example of Luther's lively polemic defense of the church the volume concludes with his theses Contra XXXII articulos Lovaniensium theologistarum (1545).
