RYBÁROVÁ, Daniela. Eco-innovation in the Slovak Republic: vědecká monografie. The first [1st] edition. České Budějovice: Vysoká škola evropských a regionálních studií, 2022. 1 CD-ROM (115 stran).
The sustainability of the environment, the elimination and prevention of the negative effects of economic activities on its individual components becomes an essential part of every economic policy, as well as a factor that significantly affects the competitiveness of individual economies in the long term. The unsustainability of the current system of human development, which is based on growing consumption, dependence on fossil fuels in combination with a growing human population and poor management and management of natural resources, is pointed out, for example, by the Living Planet Report 2022 ( WWF, 2022) Today we are facing double, interconnected emergencies caused by human-caused climate change and biodiversity loss that threaten the well-being of current and future generations.. Concerns about the state of the environment are also reflected in the content focus of science and technology and innovation policies, in which ecological innovations are gaining an increasingly important position. The policy of ecological innovations in Slovakia is fragmented between several policies. The objectives of reducing environmental risks, pollution and negative impacts of resource use through the introduction of new products, processes, management and organizational structures and models can be found in environmental protection policies, as well as in innovation and research and development policies. To support the sustainable behaviour of companies, financial subsidies are provided through various funds. In addition to direct financial instruments, Slovakia also implements some soft instruments that motivate companies to eco-innovate, such as an environmental management system according to the international standard ISO 14001, issuing labels such as an ecological product or the EU environmental label, so-called green public procurement, which support the development of innovations. The driving forces behind the introduction of eco-innovations are, on the one hand, the increasing ambition of climate policies and, on the other hand, the growing concern of people about the consequences of climate change.
