Anotace
This monograph constitutes a chronological analysis of various realizations of the Narcissus myth in the novels by Marguerite Yourcenar. The author aims to prove that Marguerite Yourcenar perceived the Narcissus myth from the perspective of an artistic challenge. This challenge was marked by the gradual abandoning of the narcissistic attitude presented by the characters from her early novels and assuming more universal values that would negate the obsessive interest in one's own self. The author presents the gradual degradation of the motif of a mirror reflection, which in "Trilogy of Identity" and "Memoirs of Hadrian" symbolized the problems with self-cognition, while in "The Abyss" stood for the split personality...
