CEBULAK, Wojciech. Prostitution in the United States and Poland: a cross-cultural criminological study from a religious perspective. Białystok: Temida 2, 2007. 151 s.
There have been a number of cross-cultural studies of prostitution done over the past few decades but none have compared the United States with Poland or have surveyed Catholic priests, or any other clergy, about the topic. This book combines a cross-cultural research method with surveying randomly selected Catholic priests in the US and in Poland in an attempt to analyze a religious perspective on prostitution in those two societies which are so different in many regards. The results include both quantitative and qualitative data derived from the survey instruments. The research shows many similarities in the perception of prostitution by the priests in the USA and Poland but also some unexpected findings, primarily regarding the role of poverty and unemployment in the etiology of prostitution.
