Rok: 1995 AnotaceReviews social and labor market policy developments in Hungary during the process of transition to a market economy. In Hungary, the process of transition to a market economy has not always been a smooth one. High unemployment, inflation, and declines in output and employment levels have created substantial hardship. The costs of social protection, moreover, are higher than Hungary can afford at its present level of development. The Hungarian authorities must strike a delicate balance between the constraints imposed by limited resources and the need to identify and implement viable policies for the benefit of disadvantaged groups.
